THE PROBLEM

Mardi Gras produces 2.1 million pounds of street trash annually.

Our streets are flooded with single-use plastics made from petrochemicals that don’t break down. They contain toxic chemicals like lead and PFAs. They’re also often imported from places with questionable labor practices, sending millions of dollars out of our region.

This leaves a lasting economic and environmental impact long after the festivities have ended.

OUR MISSION

EDUCATE: raise awareness about the environmental impacts of Mardi Gras, locally and globally

ELIMINATE: push Mardi Gras leaders and stakeholders to analyze & reduce unsustainable practices

EMPOWER: share resources, foster initiatives and support solutions

ENSURE: safeguard the cultural traditions of Mardi Gras for future generations

Our coalition was formed to address an urgent situation, to empower the community as a whole, and to create long-term, permanent social change.

WHO WE ARE

We are a coalition of local businesses, Carnival leaders, community advocates, and city stakeholders working together to build a more sustainable Mardi Gras.

Our members span generations, neighborhoods, and backgrounds, united by a shared belief that tradition and responsibility can coexist.

We love this city. We honor this celebration. We support this community.
